Oliver's Story

Hi kids! My name is Oliver and I'll be your guide to CancerSourceKids.com. I know a lot about it, because I have a friend with cancer, too. Her name is Sara and she has leukemia. Sara and I used to play all the time together.

We live near the ocean and sometimes, we would go to the beach, play fetch, and even go swimming! Then Sara was too tired to play with me. I was sad because we weren't going to the beach any more, but I was even sadder that she felt so bad. Her mom and dad took her to the doctor one day, and when she came home, everybody was really quiet and whispered a lot. That's when we found out she had leukemia.

Sara's dad always said that the best way to deal with something is to learn about it, so Sara and I searched the Internet and found this web site that would help us learn more about cancer.

Her doctor said that she would have to get a lot of treatments and medicines, so we went to Learn About Your Cancer to read more about chemotherapy. Sometimes, Sara didn't want to read, but she did want to play, so we would go to the Art Room to play with pictures. Sara said she liked answering the questions in the Question Corner, too. Now, Sara is in the hospital getting a bone marrow transplant. Sometimes she draws pictures for me from the hospital and her mom and dad put them on the refrigerator for everyone to see. It's tough waiting for her to feel better, but I know that soon we'll be playing on the beach again. I'd love to show you around so that you can see all of the things that Sara used!
